    A black abaya is a small architectural decision. It must hold its line. It must not pull at the shoulder. The hem must graze the floor without pooling. The fabric must absorb light evenly, without the cheap sheen of a synthetic.

    We make our black abayas in three weights — a light Saudi crêpe for daily wear, a medium-weight Italian silk crêpe for the evening, and a heavier hand-loomed cotton for the cooler months. Each is finished by hand and inspected three times before it leaves the box.

    Why our black is darker

    Not all black is the same black

    The depth of a black fabric is decided in the dye. We work with mills that double-dye — a longer, more expensive process that produces a saturated, even black with no greyness in the highlight. The difference is most visible in photographs and in evening light, where lesser blacks reveal themselves.
